Homemade Hommus Wraps
I love making my own wraps with wholesome ingredients, whenever I go to the store and turn over a packet of tortilla wraps they are FULL of nasty additives & unnesaary presertavites. As well as VEGETABLE OILS.
You bloody betcha. Vegetable Oils are bad for you!
Here's the low down⬇️
😵Vegetable/Seed Oils you should stay clear of:
-Canola Oil
-Vegetable Oil
-Palm Oil
-Sunflower Oil
-Corn Oil
-Peanut Oil
-Grapeseed Oil
-Rice Bran Oil
-Soybean Oil
-Cottonseed Oil
-Safflower Oil
-Margarine
-Fake Butter (vegetable oil spreads)
-Shortening
😵How are they commonly made?
They are significantly refined through a process involving extraction, the use of chemical solvents (like petroleum), the use of sodium hydroxide (a very harsh chemical), high pressure, heat, filtering, bleaching, further chemical treatment & finally deodorising (to rid the rancid smell). This leaves you with odourless, colourless, & flavourless oil ready to be used in products or to be bottled in chemically treated plastic & then sold. Yuck right!
😵How do they affect your health?
- They are easily oxidised & mostly omega-6 fats which can cause serious inflammation when overconsumed (which is easily done when they are legit in every product imaginable).
-chronic inflammation can lead to numerous health concerns & an increased risk of cancer.
-commonly sourced from genetically modified seeds, which is bad news for us & the environment.
🥜Always check ingredient lists, even whole foods like nuts are often roasted in these inflammatory oils. Pick raw nuts & dry roast them yourself or use a high quality oil.
Make your own wraps like these! Or at least make sure to screen the ingredients on those tortilla packets!
Servings: 5
Ingredients
1 ¼ cup Chickpea Flour
½ tsp Salt
2 tbsp Extra Virgin Olive Oil
2 tbsp Hommus ( I used SSS Foods Natural)
¼ cup Warm Water
Method
Combine all ingredients in a bowl until a dough forms. If the dough is too sticky add more flour, if it is too dry, add water a tablespoon at a time.
Divide mixture into five equal portions, place dough between two sheets of baking paper.
Using a roller, roll mixture into circles of approximately 2mm thickness.Heat a frying pan and drizzle with additional olive oil on a low heat.
Place each wrap in pan and cook until browned on each side approximately 3 minutes.
Keep warm in a low temperature oven (if they cool they will crack and not be as flexible, but they are still delicious!)
